Network Excellence in an out of Network of Network Environment by TP-Link

Rural Reconstruction Foundation is a Voluntary Development Organization established in 1982, aiming at the socio-economic emancipation of the underprivileged/marginalized part of the society, especially the marginalized farmers of the rural areas in Bangladesh. The commitment of RRF is based on the comprehensive development of underprivileged men, women, youths, and children toward establishing a civil society concerning full democracy, liberty, equality, justice, peace, and solidarity.

The Problem

Situated in the deep village area of Shimultoli of Navaron in Jessore, the network connectivity is very scarce and unstable. Most of the time network is either unavailable or barely connected. The customer was frustrated with such an experience and started looking for alternatives that could satisfy the need for continuous connectivity throughout the whole service area.

Their Environment

Their main operation office consists of around 3.095 acres or 5 bighas of land. It consisted of a single operating building with a total of 11 rooms spread over two floors. The walls of the building are around 15 centimeters thick which made it quite difficult to penetrate using traditional means. Additionally, they have a large area covered with lush greenery and need Wi-Fi connections to every corner of the service area.

The Need

Upon multiple sittings, we have identified the following requirements from the customer, which are stated bellow

  1. Uninterrupted Connection: The very first requirement of the customer was uninterrupted service no matter where they use the internet within their operation area.
  2. Edge-to-Edge Connection: With a large area and continuous movement of employees within the service area, a Wi-Fi connection to every edge of the whole area was a must for the customer
  3. Strong Wi-Fi Signal: Finally, with communication mostly carried out outside of Bangladesh, internet connection drop was constantly an issue. Therefore, they required a strong Wi-Fi signal from every corner of the area.
  4. Distance Coverage: Being in a remote area, there was no nearby Internet Service provider, therefor they relied on SIM-based network systems till now. Therefore, a constant drop in internet connectivity was a major issue.

Why TP-Link

Upon analyzing all the problems and needs of the customer we have identified that a strong network infrastructure was needed in place. The customer tried various other locally available networking bands without any satisfactory results. We studied the whole environment and developed a plan that will provide a complete solution to the customer. The products we have used for the infrastructure are below:

  1. MIKROTIK RB3011UiAS-RM ROUTERBOARD WITH 1U RACKMOUNT CASE ROUTEROS L5-US = 1 pcs
  2. TP-LINK EAP225 AC1350 WIRELESS MU-MIMO GIGABIT CEILING MOUNT INDOOR ACCESS POINT = 8 pcs
  3. TP-LINK EAP610-OUTDOOR AX1800 OMADA INDOOR OR OUTDOOR WIFI 6 ACCESS POINT = 6 pcs
  4. TP-LINK TL-SG3428XMP JETSTREAM 24-PORT GIGABIT AND 4-PORT 10GE SFP Plus L2 Plus MANAGED SWITCH WITH 24-PORT POE Plus = 1 pcs

Here, Mikrotik was used as the backbone for the whole network system due to its strong management capability. The connection was spread throughout the whole area using the TP-Link TL-SG3428XMP Jetstream switch that established the connection with the MIKROTIK RB3011UiAS-RM RouterBoard and the TP-Link Access Points. As the area that required coverage are both indoors and outdoors, we used 8 Pcs of TP-Link EAP225 for the indoor and 6 Pcs of EAP610 for the outdoor support.

The Solution

  1. Establishing a Stable Connection: First, we established a stable bandwidth connection to ensure a stable connection. As no nearby Internet Service Provider was available, we opted to bring the connection directly from the nearest town to the remote area using wire connectivity and brought the whole network in a single central hub that distributed stable connection through all the access points.
  2. Use of Indoor and Outdoor access points: With strong and long coverage of TP-Link EAP series access points, It was very easy to cover the whole premises. The EAP series both support seamless roaming when moving from one place to another. Therefore, even video streams and voice calls are unaffected as users move between locations. The MU-MIMO technology ensured all the devices connected receive stable signals simultaneously.
  3. Outdoor Coverage: As most of the area coverage is outside of the main building, a very coverage solution was required. The EAP610 with the latest Wi-Fi 6 technology and Omada Mesh feature proved to be the most optimal solution to cover the 3 acres of area without any interruptions.
  4. Omada Mesh System: The Omada mesh system of the EAP225 and EAP610 helped to establish a seamless corner-to-corner connection in the whole service area of the customer. Customers can stay connected to the single area without ever changing SSIDs. Also, the centralized OMADA management system both available on web and application version managed the system efficiently.

The Result

After installing the network system, we had several meetings at regular intervals to learn the customer feedback regarding their user experience. They are currently highly satisfied with the new network system and say they feel barely any lag while using the internet. On top of that, the regular online meetings with foreign clients are now being carried out smoothly with no issues. Now, they get strong signals on every corner of the premises without any signal or Wi-Fi connection drop. They can now download and upload their required files and reports with ease. In customer’s word, the new network system has been a life-changing experience for them.
